The presidential election is over and we appreciate all the readers who surfed this website during last few months to get updates on the election. We are glad to inform you that, our latest website for General Election 2010 Sri Lanka, is now online.

Unlike this site, we are going beyond the scope of just being an opinion poll website in the new site. Our aim is to make the new site the home page of Parliamentary Election 2010, Sri Lanka.

We will be posting regular news updated related to the election. There is a section on which we publish third party opinions. We also plan to maintain a discussion forum to discuss the topics.

Let's Congradulate Mahinda Rajapakshe for Getting the Public Mandate for a Second Term

People of Sri Lanka have spoken their last word loud and clear. Mahinda Rajapakshe secured his second term as the president with a large majority. If you are wondering about how the final outcome of the election was completely different from the reading of this opinion poll, here are some facts that you have to take into equation.

1) Sri Lanka only have an internet penitration of less than 5%
2) Majority of the internet users in SL are teenagers and in their early 20's. But most of the registered voters in SL have a different demographic profile
3) Most of the internet users are based in Colombo. In Colombo, SF had an advantage in the election results as well
4) Majority of the people who voted MR were based in rural Sri Lanka, who never bother to express their views in opinion polls. They just vote on election date.

Election was free and fair to a greater extend, according to independent monitors. Therehad been few isolated incidents in several parts of the island, but it did not affected the final result of the poll.

Most of the rumours spreading around are baseless allegations. Cinamon Lakeside is free for anyone to enter and anyone to exit. Commissioner of election is clearly disapointed about the conduct of the people from both side, and he seems to be a stressed man. Rumours that, he had been in house arrest are totally baseless. None of the opposition party leaders said something like that in the press conference, and none of the main stream media reported such an incident.

In the final analysis, Mahinda Rajapakshe has registered a clear public mandate to run this country for another six years. His supporters abused state media and state properties during the campaign. That would have been made some impact in the final vote counts, but even without that Sarath Fonseka couldn't have fill the gap of nearly 2 million majority votes.

There is a phase 3 for this opinion poll, and that will be held on January 26th. We are NOT going to host that opinion poll, as the department of elections is working hard to arrange the "poll" for you!! So don't forget to cast your vote that really counts!!!

Several people commented that we are a site backed by Sarath Fonseka's campaign, after seeing results favorable for sarath Fonseka. We categorically decline that allegation. We are toally unbiased and independent. What you see as poll results is what the people voted. We agree the sample of "internet users" may be biased towards the public opinion in Colombo city. The public opinion of remote places may be totally different from what is surfaced here.
